SPRINGFIELD YOUTH MINISTRY
“From the very first time we heard about Youth Ministry from Mr. Brac speaking at Sunday Mass,
my 12 year-old insisted that there was NO WAY he was going.
He cited that he already had CCD on Monday nights and didn’t want to go to a “2nd CCD” on Wednesday nights.
And, besides, he’d miss swim practice. Reluctant was a good word to describe him on that first Wednesday.
He loved it! He now skips swim practice every other week so he can go and can’t wait
until the season is over so that he can go every week.
My 15 year-old did not need any convincing to go to Youth Ministry, and has not been disappointed yet!
First of all, there is food. Enough said. But, honestly, I think what he most likes about it is that he feels like he has a voice.
Not only in big things, like faith, where everyone is usually telling, not asking, what you should think, but small things too, like Mr. Brac allowing them to play dodgeball.
Having a voice in a trusted community of both peers and adults is something quite lacking,
but quite needed for youth of today’s society. I am grateful that my boys have the opportunity to be part of it!
